How about this idea?
Unfortunately prison escapes do occur. It would be a good idea to build a prison surrounded by a 2000 foot moat with piranhas in it.

shareI'm not 100% sure about this...but the PIRANHAS in this film were a hybrid-gene splicing (mutated) breed. Some type of military (vietnam war) experiment.
These was sorta the only explanation, why these breed was able to survive outside their 'rain-forest' type of natural habitat.
Piranhas I think only exist in the amazon (amazonia) rain-forest area.

I imagine that there are different species of piranhas. Are all or most piranhas dangerous to be around with? I know the species that was being bred in the film were extremely violent and carniverous.
shareI've heard of Piranhas attacking and eating each other. I'm sure this is probably under extreme starving conditions. I also understand that they really are not as vicious as (stereotypically) portrayed. I think if there's this piranha infested river and you have to cross it, they usually or most probaly won't bother you. That is unless you have some type of bleeding injury on you.... then, like any shark attack, your screwed. They will devour you (whole) in seconds. They will swarm 'round your body and shrewd you up.

I also recall, some kinda subplot (backstory) explaining how this Genetically Enhanced (cloned) Piranha species from the movie, were bred to survive in any kinda of body of water (fresh water, salt water). They were originally to be used a bio-weapon/warfare ( I think for Vietnam or Korean War). They were mean, vicious, killing machines.
