Completely stumbled on this one by accident. I had a business lunch today on the back patio of a restaurant here in Austin called "Lucy's Boatyard," right next to "Hula Hut." I had my back to the water during the whole meeting and meal, but looked across the water (Lake Austin, but it's more like a big river) as we were leaving and saw it. I told the group and, of course, none of my colleagues knew of the movie.

Go to the websites and click the "about us" buttons. Some of the photos show the familiar looking water view (but not the building). A piece of trivia is that if Paul and Maggie kept driving the boat past the "smelting plant" for a couple of hundred yards they would have crashed into topside of a fairly large dam. The websites also have a map.

Found the kid's camp location ( In Wimberley of course). Lots of houses there now that weren't there in 1978. Got to swim there this past weekend. The woman who runs the Cypress Falls Cafe, where you rent your tubes, confirmed it was the location.

I've just been to Aquarena Springs three days ago on my 29th birthday and I love it more every time I go there! :-) I've been there several times now. I can't wait to get this movie on Blu-Ray! :-) It'll be great to see Aquarena Springs back in the day! :-)

According to magazine interviews with both Bradford Dillman and Belinda Balaski, the scenes with both of them being attacked by piranha were shot at a public pool in Los Angeles. It's also noted in the original pressbook that several interiors and most of the underwater scenes were shot in Los Angeles. Dillman in his magazine interview in "Shock Cinema" issue #22 identifies the swimming pool as being located at the University of California; he spent one exhausting full day diving into the deep end of said pool for the shots of the puppet piranha biting his face.

I have a question:

Does anyone know the lake/river where the 1995 TV remake of "Piranha" were filmed? It looks like some of it was shot at Castaic Lake near Valencia, CA.

1. The kids summer camp is located in the sub-division of Woodcreek right near Wimberley,Tx.

The stone formations are exactly the same as they were during the movie. There are way more houses now but I lived in the townhouses for 6 years. The creek the kids are swimming in is called Cypress Creek and it forms at the mouth of Jacobs Well. A very beautiful area.
