Neidermeyer was more funny. He was broader and more "out there," which is consistent with the tone of the movie. Marmalarde's main purpose just seemed to be serving as the unlikable opposite-of-our-guys nemesis.
I will note that Neidermeyer had one quick moment of snobby pompousness though, when he was sitting with a group in front of the Omega House talking about how his father was in Korea* - "He was an officer, of course." _____ *Which, though I've never thought about it before, is kind of a weird detail. That was only 10 years or so before the timeframe of the movie, and Neidermayer is a senior, so his father was in Korea when Neidermeyer was around 10 or 12 years old.

Yeah, Neidermeier's father would've probably also have served in WW 2, as well, surprised he didn't mention that.
