Dean Vernon Wormer = President Nixon?
Despite the parallels often drawn between Dean Wormer and Richard Nixon, it's not altogether clear the writers based Wormer et al on the Nixon administration.
In his book "The Real Animal House", Chris Miller emphatically points out that his dean at Dartmouth (Thaddeus Seymour, wrongly alleged as the inspiration for Wormer) was quite decent and upstanding, and nothing like Wormer at all. He underscores the point by saying "Nixon was Wormer" - but not Wormer-is-Nixon.
I know it's a fine distinction, but I think it's a telling one.
