One thing that strikes me about Bluto...

He's rowdy, yes, perverted, yes, maybe even psychotic - but he's a genuinely nice guy. It really comes through in the scene where he's trying to cheer up Flounder after his brother's car got banged up. The little dance he does, the smiley face he puts on, even cracking the beer bottle on his head - you can tell he genuinely wants to help Flounder feel better. I especially like the consternated face he makes after every failed attempt; he's clearly thinking, "Hrm...that one didn't work...what ELSE would make him laugh?"

He's crazy, but there's a lot of humanity in him.

"You may have come on no bicycle, but that does not say that you know everything."

I agree.

I kinda have this hugely pathetic crush on him....and your post makes me feel like it isn't so pathetic. Thanks. :)

reply

that would be all of Belushi's characters, that is why we all sigh when we see him in anything.

Ephemeron.

reply

He brought a sweet humanity to all of his roles, no matter how ridiculous the characters were. He shared that talent with John Candy, and his adoring protege Chris Farley. Jack Black comes closest to accomplishing that, among modern actors.

- HOW kin I be so brainless, when I is so smart?

reply

Yeah, for sure. I would want Bluto around every time I wanted to get really messed up. Every "Animal House" needs a Bluto.

reply

Would you feel that way if he smashed your guitar as you were trying to serenade a young lady?

"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"

"Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came"

reply

I don't play guitar. So, yes.

- Crazy. All crazy but I'm.

reply

Dude, he said he was sorry about the guitar! You know who the guy with the guitar is? Singer-songwriter Stephen Bishop. If you hear him sing one of his songs, you'll want to do the same thing as Bluto, I gwar-an-goddam-tee it!

reply

He's the kind of guy you shouldn't want in your fraternity but actually really need.
