In the scene where Otter is showing the slides of potential pledges to the other Deltas and they come to Kroger, someone in the back shouts out "We need the dues!" according to the subtitles but it sounds like he says "We need the dudes!"which to me sounds more funny. I have seen this film over a hundred times and have never heard this addressed.

The point was that Pinto was a basically a non-entity. Nobody cared whether he was in the fraternity one way or the other, dude-wise. Dues-wise, they figured they could use the money.
