I don't get it, was this comedy in the 70s?

Because this movie was dreadfully boring and could not have possibly been less funny. After hearing about how great this movie is for my entire life, I was expecting to at least be mildly amused or chuckle a couple times. I pity you folks who are about 20 years older than me and grew up thinking this was good. Yuck.

too bad - for you - we paid 220 a quarter for 16 units in the 80's... go watch some more hanna montana

reply

I pity you, OP. Don't even think about pitying us older folks... we had the best of everything.

There is storytelling in a real comedy. It's not a joke-a-second storm of quick cuts. We need to learn about the characters before we can laugh at them.

Thank you for your opinion. Sorry to hear you didn't understand or enjoy this movie. This movie is more for people who aren't naturally like Dean Wormer.

This film and "Porky's" were extremely funny when they were first run films in the movie houses. But they have not aged well.

reply

I was on the side of Porky in that ridiculous film. The poor guy was trying to run a business and then a bunch of horny hooligans destroyed it for him. Shameful.

reply

A lot of the jokes in this film have been re-done, parodied, and taken to extremes in other movies since, making this one look quite tame in comparison.

reply

Oh, I'm sorry this movie wasn't full of sewer humor you're used to now. No fart jokes, dick jokes, gross jokes etc. Sorry if this type of humor is beneath you. 

reply

I definitely seem to recall gross jokes and jokes involving dicks in Animal House. And it's kind of strange to try and postulate it as something classy and "in good taste" when the film's so deliberately crass, irreverent and, well, less than politically correct.

I was born in 1991 and I love this movie! I know our generation is used to the quick pacing and snarky humor, but it's just a matter of taste. Don't yuck someone else's yum.
