Robbie Robertson New Solo Album - Up and Coming!

It's in the works according to R2R's official Facebook or his MySpace page (forgotten which one) operated by his son, Sabastian. Says that the reason the Clapton/Robertson colaboration album was shelved was because Clapton couldn't put the dedication into the record that he felt it deserved. Needed to spend time with his family.

Good for Robbie...I hope he gets back to his rock and roll roots a bit more. I respect the Native American thing but I think he has taken it as far as he can.

Didn't even know there was a Clapton/Robbie project. Truthfully, I think Clapton has been a rather lazy artist for most of his career....

I completely agree about Clapton. The only Clapton albums I ever bought were the "Layla" double thing back in the early seventies (well, I actually stole it from someone who had a catalog full of David Cassidy and Donnie Osmond records - They didn't miss it, I'm sure). I bought "461 Ocean Boulevard". That had a couple of nice songs on it. I bought "Backless" for 99 cents in a cutout bin (yeah, 99 cents too much) Should have called the thing "Dickless" or "Spineless" or something! I purchased "No Reason To Cry" because it was made at Shangri-La and had that beautiful "Sign Language" on it. That had "All Our Past Times" and "Black Summer Rain". they wer nice tunes.

I, for the life of me do not understand why this guy's in the hall of fame THREE times! I'd be totally ashamed if I had been inducted because of a myth or something. If you really listen to his records with a little objectivity and your ears wide open, he comes off like a boring saggy old humpster (whatever that is)

I hope RR goes less GLOBAL on this next album. I too appreciate the Native stuff and agree that he's taken it as far as he can take it. I also ain't too fond of this "World Music" badge he wears, After all, He's not Peter Gabriel! I'd like to see him nail it to the wall and get down and dirty and prove once again that he's clearly the best writer/guitarists ever born!!

No Reason to Cry is wonderful album, and it's my favorite Clapton, but I'll still take any of Robbie's solo albums over that one. I can't wait for this next one. He needs to work with Garth, for god's sake, they've always been so insync and even their solo careers took similar paths as far as sound experimentation is concerned, so I bet they could create one of the coolest records in a long time if they really got back together.

Clapton has had wonderful moments, especially the albums you mentioned. But he just goes back to that same GROOVE, over and over and over again, year and years, DECADES even. There great moments throughout and especially early on but there is an overall since of laziness. You can see that in their guitar duel on the Last Waltz....Clapton is infintely better in terms of technique, but Robbie had so much passion and sheer joy that he was topping him, and Clapton seemed to enjoy this most of all.

I think Cream is terribly overrated, but I guess you would let them in. Gotta have The Yardbirds too. So I guess he is the three timer.

I appreciate and admired Red Boy and the Native American album...but in truth I almost never see myself returning to them. I do return to most of The Band albums, Robbie's first and sometimes Storyville. I hope he does a looser, rootsier album this time. Maybe he could work with John Simon again.

I don't think he'll be working with John Simon again any ways soon. There's an interview over on The Band site where John Simon has a few choice words to say about how Robbie ... yep, screwed him outta money! Simon said back before The Last Waltz, he kept calling Robbie about money due him from the Band albums and then Robbie asked him to be apart of TLW and suddenly the money just materialized. According to Simon, Robbie kept telling him that he wasn't due any more money. Suddenly one day Simon gets this check in the mail along with a letter signed by Robbie and his lawyers telling Simon not expect or ask for any more. Simon apparently never got paid for his work on The Last Waltz. Robbie stands by his story that the film didn't even come close to breaking even let alone making money. Simon mentioned in the same interview that he and Robbie just happened to be at the same party a few years ago and didn't even speak so I bet that collaboration would be OUT. Hell, Is Bob Clearmountain still around?

I got a feeling RR's going to go real modern. Try to break some new ground altogether. He was working with that rap guy on "Redboy". I don't believe RR can go backwards. He's burned all those bridges, or rather.. all those bridges have burned him or somethin like that. That's just my opinion of course. I guess some miracle could happen and all could be forgotten and forgiven but I don't think we oughta hold our breath.

I can return back to all of RR's solo albums, but you have to be really really high. The song "Peote Healing" on Redboy is a blessing.

Yeah, it is really beautiful. But it's just not the kind of thing I am usually in the mood for. "Unbound" is a great song though.

My favorite off the album Redboy is "The Lights" My favorite off "For The Native Americans" is the beautiful "The Vanishing Breed" done with Douglas Spotted Eagle. That song makes me soar through canyons like and eagle.
