What was up with all the dry crap on Jeff's mouth? Was that to show how the original bodies kind of melt away leaving the new clones?

It was his body decaying from being replicated. It had to be uncomfortable having lips that horribly chapped!

He also mentioned to his wife how dehydrated he was and needed something to drink.

His bodily fluids were being sucked out of him for the new body.
