the scene with the mis-changed dog-man

As many times as I've seen the movie, that scene with the merged man-head dog still freaks me out. A large part, if not all of that scene was filmed on a Saturday. I had a chance to be part of the background crowd but I had friends waiting to finish gearing up at Rocky Horror and I wanted to hook up with them. If I had know that Brooke Adams (who I had the hots for at that time) and Goldblum and Sutherland (whom I both still love greatly) were in the movie I would have stuck around. After all, they didn't need me on duty until the movie started anyway.

The scene where the guy is stopping cars and screaming a warning in the middle of the street was half a block, just out of sight, of where I was living at the time. I always laugh at that scene 'cause the store right there on the corner is where I'd go several times a week and heat up a can of mac-n-cheese or SpaghettiOs in there microwave for lunch. Goddess, the TL was fun in those days.

What is the name of that store that was on the corner that they showed? It started with an R I think.

The man/dog freaked me out the first time I saw the movie and now it just makes me laugh.

I think is was the Ringside, but I could be wrong. It WAS decades ago.

too bad she screamed. If she had had enough strength of will to keep a straight face and not show any emotion that dog creature would have moved on. Then the 3 survivors could have found an opportune moment to regroup and get some privacy to plan their escape. Elizabeth was kind of a pathetic character, and her falling asleep was lame too, a person can survive up to a WEEK without sleep and the five speed pills she swallowed would have counteracted the "mild sedative" pod Kibner gave her. She was so much less tough than Matthew.

By the way Matthew could have still escaped. When her pod form told him to come and sleep I would have pretended to agree with her and give in. I would walk towards her and lie down in the grass and close my eyes, then suddenly I would grab her and beat her to death, which would be doable since the pods duplicate the physical characteristics of their victims and she would be as strong as Brook Adams and Donald Southerland would be way stronger. After breaking her neck I would continue to work on my escape instead of going after revenge like he did.

It is actually a mask placed on a dog's face! But hard to detect!

By the time I saw this version of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, I was very well-versed in horror flicks. Through cruel fate, it just so happened to be one of the last classic horror movies I saw. By the time I finally watched Invasion '78, I'd seen it all. I was completely desensitized, and there were few things left for me to do but laugh whenever something cool or freaky happened.

But when the dog-man part came on, it elicited a genuine "WTF?!?!?" reaction from me I'd not felt in years. Felt good, man. And I haven't felt it since. God bless this movie.

I knew there would be a man-dog thread!

When this was first released, I was in the theatre thinking to myself that Brooke Adams was going to be the typical movie female weak link and do something stupid and furthermore, that I could do better. "Well, it would be a drab existence, but I could keep my face straight if that's what it took to survive." Just then that man-dog ran out and I screamed like I'd been scalded. Ha! Pod me.

Every time I see it, I think of "The Mephisto Waltz" in which there is a masquerade party. Someone leads a dog around, and it's wearing a human face-mask!

I always wondered if "TMW" inspired this scene.

This isn't a very good copy:
