The bit that really get's me...

That no-one seems to mention is when she goes to the church and says "sorry" or is it "forgive me"??? i can't quite remember right now...

She knows full well that what she's about to do is just as wrong as what they did to her... I think maybe if she'd gone to the church AFTER the killings and begged for forgiveness i might have forgiven the whole film. But as it is it's just repellent worthless trash.

Plus I still don't buy the directors whole angle, if she'd crawled out into the road directly after she'd come round after the rapes and got picked up and taken to a police station or hospital, in the condition she was in - there's NO WAY any police person could "ignore" her or not take her seriously... NO WAY

I think it makes perfect sense. I'm not religious in any sort of way, but I've heard stories of people who have went to church and "prayed for forgiveness" before committing a murder or something. It isn't unusual.

with regard to your last statement about the police not taking her seriously and ignoring her:
the movie was inspired by something that the director was actually involved in. he saw a naked bloody woman crawling out of a bush on the side of the road. he picked her up and took after trying to decide weather to take her to a hospital or the police first he took her to the police. he said that this was a terrible mistake as the cop treated her very poorly and would not get her medical attention. the cop would only ask her questions, which she couldn't answer because of a broken jaw, and get pissed that she didn't answer. the idea of the police acting as such was influenced directly by the directors experience trying to help a rape victim. he ended up demanding that the cop let them take her to a hospital before the rest of the investigation.

Yeah maybe in NYC, which i think is where the said incedent took place, or one of the big city's, it's almost understandable - but TERRIBLE of course... I mean the police in NYC or wherever probably faced dozens of cases like that a day - or at least they did back in the 70's...

If it happened out in the country where the movie is set i think the reaction she would of got would have been very different - I mean this is what "bugs" me the most Why didn't Zarchi make the film exactly like the incedent he was involved in I can't imagine the victim of the crime would be happy knowing that Zarchi took inspiration from what happened to her, to make this worthless piece of garbage.

I don't understand why you are calling it worthless garbage? Just because the girl got revenge? Because she didn't go to the police? Because she went to the church before commiting the crimes?

reply

Yuck, that is horrible. :s

Thanks for sharing that. It's really interesting to hear. Pretty harsh though.

Back then rape was not taken as seriously as it is now. Even today, many women who get raped don't even bother to report it. So yes, to me it is very believable that she would not have gone to the police right away -- even though she did try to call them when she got home, thinking that the rape was over.

She wasn't in a condition to do anything but crawl to the shower and then to bed, and just wait for the pain to become bearable. No way she could have driven anywhere. And drop the "what she did was just as bad" crap, pacifist dope.

People also seem to forget the last shots of the movie, with Jennifer sitting in that motorboat, not smiling, just blank and staring into nothing. I always thought that was the director showing that revenge is a hollow act and it's not going to bring her back anything. I think the guys deserved it, but I think Jennifer just hurt herself even more than after she was raped.

She looked happier to me.

It makes perfect sense because if something goes wrong and you get killed during the process of revenge, then it's too late to ask for forgiveness afterwards.

You've obviously never dealt with idiot cops.

How is what she does just as bad as what they did? You really think ridding the world of barbaric rapists is as bad as attacking innocent young women?

People like you are why evil flourishes, and why crime was especially bad in the '70s.
