4 stars out of 5. Here's why:

JOE PENDLETON is a football player who dies before he was meant to, because of an angel's mistake. LANCE BARTON is a stand-up comedian who dies before he was meant to, because of an angel's mistake. Hey, what's going on up there?! Actually, they're both counterparts from 2 movies based on the same theatre play. So the mistake really only happened once. It's not about the number of times, though; it's about how serious the damage is. I hope the people who work in Heaven get their act together or I'll go up there and teach them a lesson. Yes, I'll kill myself so I can try to kill immortal beings. Anyway, MR. JORDAN/MR. KING (the angel in charge) allows JOE/LANCE to enter the body of a man who's going to die anyway: Millionaire LEO FARNSWORTH/CHARLES WELLINGTON. He likes an activist named BETTY LOGAN/SONTEE JENKINS, but it'll be hard to win her over without a good pick-up line--his own body.

Beatty's performance in't the most expressive one, but he still manages to convey emotions. Rock's performance is kind of the opposite. He's very expressive and funny, but struggles during the dramatic moments. The supporting actors are given much more to do in the remake, which is why most of them shine. MR. JORDAN was written as just a calmed man, while MR. KING was written as a suave club owner that may or not be a gangster. Luckily, he's still portrayed as someone who's larger than life, so the character isn't ruined.
