what number Joe had on his jersey at the beginning of the movie? Jarrett has number 16 at the end but I don't remember what Joe's was before he died.

We can't see what number he is wearing at the beginning of the movie when he's practicing. Joe is wearing a red shirt/vest over his football jersey and it hides whatever number he is wearing. You can't see it.
shareAlthough it's not too easy to read it through the red, it's number 14. Curiously, it's the same number both at the beginning of the film during his practice as Joe and later on when he tries out for the team as Leo Farnsworth.
