Is this a blooper?

I could have sworn that before Joe entered the tunnel on his bike, he did not have his musical instrument with him. However, he did have it when he was in the "Weigh Station".

Can anybody out there confirm or deny this?

Thanks!

Cheers!

Sincerely, Steve B.

You're right - he didn't have it with him on the bike, but I don't think it was a blooper. I think he had it in the weigh station because it's something he would have had in Heaven. You can't take it with you, and yet people imagine that all the great jazz musicians have a band up there. Maybe the bad musicians get to take their instruments too.

he also had his horn when he crawled out of the well towards the end, after he was shot as farnsworth....he died as farnsworth in farnsworths clothes, but came back as joe again, with sweatsuit and horn. those are supposed to symbolize the 'real' joe pendleton

Yeah, The musical instrument (It was a clarinet) symbolizes Joe Pendleton's persona. That's why when he is no longer Joe he sees the clarinet and thinks it's Corkle's instrument. That's the moment when Corkle realizes that Joe is finally gone, leaving his "body" to Tom Jarret.

Kinda unfair, isn't it?

NO!

It is NOT a "clarinet!"

It is, in fact, a SOPRANO SAXOPHONE!

... clarinet??!!?? SHEESH!

Quite right. It's also not a "weigh station", it's a "way station" -- a station on the way from one place to another. The term is a bit archaic, and the weigh station, where you drive your semi onto the scales, is better known today.

If you watch the movie you clearly see that Joe had his sax tied onto the back of his bike. He seems to have never gone anywhere without it. :)

Hey I thought the rule was "no sax before a game"!!! LOL!

This is NOT an error of any kind. When he rides the bike, you clearly see that the instrument is laid across a shelf-like thing behind the bike seat.

yep, peaking out the back of the pack on the bike rack
