If they never made a sequel to this film....
Do you think that it would be more highly regarded among the horror community than it already is?
shareDo you think that it would be more highly regarded among the horror community than it already is?
shareNah. I don't think sequels change peoples' opinion of a movie.
shareSo Busta Rhymes saying “trick or treat Mother Bleeper” and Adam Arkin sucking on Jamie Lee Curtis’s face while making slurping noises doesn’t effect your viewings of the original Halloween?
shareSimilarly I wish I had never seen the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. That garbage has ruined the terror and mystique surrounding Leatherface and his family in the oringinal.
shareThe originals are still seen as classics. But I can see how it might bother some people, these terrible turns the characters took in later movies.
shareNot one iota. Just like seeing Michael Caine as a Jamaican pilot in Jaws the Revenge does not lessen how I feel about Jaws.
shareNo, part of Myers status is because it wasn't one and done. And the sequels don't take anything away from that film.
shareHalloween is still pretty highly regarded as a horror film. Despite one exceptional example for myself that I pointed out above, sequels don't tend to mitigate the oringinal. Nor where all the Halloween sequels considered awful.
shareThere is some merit to this argument. For true horror fans and people of a certain age, nothing will diminish this film. But for younger people who become more familiar with the multiple sequels that are shown every year (perhaps AMC can explain how Halloween 5 qualifies as an "American Movie Classic"), the original is thought of as just another slasher film.
It's kind of like the original Rocky which is for the most part a masterpiece. But for kids who grew up in the mid to late 80s, the installments they were most familiar with were parts III and IV which were fun movies but compared to the original they were watered down popcorn flicks. So when they hear Rocky, they may be unaware how heralded the original actually was. I think the original Halloween has a bit of the same problem.
I don't like movies like that. Like black Christmas from 1974. WTF!!!!! They can still make a sequel 2 that 1.
shareIt wouldn't make any sense.
shareGood question.
