Truly great musical that featured life as it should be. Real schools should be like that!
Wonder - what if they'd given it the Oscar?
I recently rewatched it and yes, it’s a terrific musical, a genre I can barely watch in general. The original West Side Story was pretty great as well but I have a low tolerance for musicals for the most part.
Grease had a $6M budget vs. $396M worldwide box office…That’s a mega hit for a studio and I’d wager it funded lots of later pictures.
It was nominated for Best Music (original song) but lost out to Thank God It's Friday. It definitely should've been nominated for Best picture, but would've had no chance up against The Deer Hunter and Midnight Express. But a nomination would've definitely been deserved.
