Psychic movies?

There seemed to have been a heavy trend of movies about the "paranormal" like telekenisis and psychic abilities. Scanners, The Fury, Carrie, etc.

There was a lot of interest in this in the 70s. I think it's died out because it's all been shown to be hoaxes. Today, we still have "mediums" that mostly purport to communicate with the dead; this is basically the same scam, but much less flashy I guess.

On television in the late 70s and 80s, there was a popular show called That's Incredible which featured many pieces on psychics. The original Ripley's Beleive It or Not also got into it to a much lesser degree. In the 80s, the trend seem to move away from levitation & spoon bending tricks, and more towards crime fighting (Unsolved Mysteries features many episodes on this). Today, TV's "Lost" has been dealing with psychic phenomena, and makes specific reference to the 70s fascination with it (the fictional Dharma Initiative).

On film, a few come to mind. There are David Cronenberg's "The Brood" or "Scanners", both demented takes on this. There are also "The Exorcist II: The Heretic", Natalie Wood's final film "Brainstorm", Stephen King's "The Dead Zone," the terrible Scott Baio comedy "Zapped", and for a modern angle, "Minority Report."

If there are real psychics then why haven't one of them won the One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Million_Dollar_Paranormal_Challenge

They are all con artists, that's why.

Maybe some are not interested. Besides, there's a rumor that only con artists are taken on. That's what the public likes to see. Wasn't that canceled anyway? Maybe someone won. ;)

There IS real psychic phenomena, but that doesn't mean people can necessarily control it and perform for a TV camera. For instance, ten years ago I had an intense dream and my wife ran into the room to wake me up because the fire alarm was blaring outside the bedroom door. As soon as I woke up I heard the alarm for a second or two before it stopped. A few days later the same thing happened with another intense dream. It hasn't happened since though.

On another occasion, when I was eight, my family was hiking through the city park when the trail came to the outfield of a baseball field wherein a softball game was playing. As we entered the outskirts of the field I 'saw' in my mind the batter hitting the ball and the ball smacking me on my cheek and -- sure enough -- that's exactly what happened -- my mind saw what was going to happen before it occurred. Good thing it was a softball, huh?

So I know for a fact that psychic phenomena exist, but I couldn't "perform" in front of an audience.
