About all of the damage caused during the race to the opera

Who here feels that the vatican would most likely have found the cost of paying for all of that damage (caused by Chase and Hawn as they raced recklessly to the Opera house ) a SMALL price to pay to save the Pope from assasination??

I figure that they probably caused maybe 2-3 Million in damages(in 1978 dollars) max, if all of the cars were replaced and the businesses repaired too.

I've been down the steps the car drove over ... and to all the other places during the chase scene. I can't even see it all costing that much. But I'm sure the Vatican would spring for it.

Odds are the syndicate that was going to assasinate the Pope would be the ones financially responsible.
