Old movie showing at the NuArt

Anyone know what the film clip shown was from? Or did they shoot their own for the film? I know the marquee lists a couple of titles, neither of which seem to be real films but one of which suggests a real Alan Ladd movie (that being "This Gun For Hire".) But I always wondered if there's an Alan Ladd movie with a Chinese sailor and the other plot details Gloria describes, and what the film they actually show on-screen is.

well that's the 'real' movie i was thinking of, but is the clip in the movie theater where scotty is stabbed, and gloria screams at the same time someone on screen pulls out a long knife, from "This Gun for Hire?" (I've never seen it).

It's THIS GUN FOR HIRE, but the musical score in the "film" is scored by Charles Fox and is part of the FOUL PLAY soundtrack.
