I remembered this as a poor film

And watching it again many years later I was right to do so. I think 3 actors manage to turn in a decent performance; Robert Shaw, Edward Fox & Michael Byrne. Everyone else is overcome by the clunky script with its awkward expositions and a series of tensionless moments - even the music is annoying.
It's a long time since I read the book but the main thing I remember is how disappointing it was compared to The Guns Of Navarone. I suspect for this film they took it's not particularly good story, 'improved it' (sic) with elements from Where Eagles Dare and hoped they would catch a little of the first films success - they failed!

Its not that bad. I enjoyed it quite a bit when it aired on TV as a kid.

I hadn't watched it in years. But I remember being bored watching it. There are some elements that work like the enmity between Carl Weathers and Richard Kiel or Franco Nero as the traitor (sorry for spoiling a 55 year old movie). But it's comparatively flat next to the 1961 movie despite being a half-hour shorter.

I would call it mediocre, but it has a certain charm.

It is a poor film. Or mediocre at best.

I rarely bail on a film after I get through the first half, but there are exceptions.

I had it on my DVR and thought that I've seen it before, but I was wrong.. I've never have.

A weird bit of synchronicity happened... I bailed right after the plan was hatched to blow the dam to take out the bridge. A few days later, Russia blew up the Kakhova dam to slow the Ukrainian offensive.

The good part is I didn't miss the nudity in the Barbra Bach bath scene.
