Alternate Ending?
I seem to remember that the ending was changed AFTER it was released... Does anyone have information on this?

I saw it when it came out. After all the routine horror stuff the surviving protagonists suddenly found themselves faced with an extremely hammy Victor Buono as Satan. The scene was excruciatingly bad and unintentionally hilarious. It turned an OK slasher-type flick into a ludicrous howler. Apparently they cut that part (being a sort of epilogue, it could easily have been chopped without making the story seem unfinished) after audiences the first week or so were found laughing at it. I'd sure like to see that scene again! It's been thirty years yet I still remember how hilarious it was when Buono was sitting on his little throne, his evil laugh processed through some kind of echo chamber. I mean, if they'd cast Marty Feldman as the Devil it wouldn't have been any sillier.
shareI saw this recently on Nostalgia Horror on TVU Networks online. This ending was intact. In fact in all of the trailers for this film that are on youtube, Victor Buono is credited as starring in this along with Richard Crenna and Joanna Pettett. "Richard Crenna, Joanna Pettett, Victor Buono, The Evil. Rated R."

Yea,not sure about a different ending.I own a VHS copy I bought from a video rental store that was closing and Victor is there,as his Satanic Majesty,in all his glory. If they did make an alternate ending,I would love to see it.
shareI also have a VHS copy that I bought from an old rental store, and that ending with Victor Buono is terrific but seems a bit tacked on – like they didn't really know how to end this film. Great performance, though. I'd also like to see more.
shareThis is listed in the Alternate Versions section:
Some prints cut Victor Buono's appearance as the Devil
