Pretty, but pretty boring.
It’s a visual banquet that I found very difficult to sit through. Nothing grabbed me other than the visuals.

shareagreed.
shareGlad you were able to enjoy the visuals anyway.
I find this movie endlessly fascinating, almost to the point of obsession. Everything about it grabs me and won't let go.
Gotta disagree. Everything grabbed me - not just the visuals - in ways I can't really explain. One of the most soulful movies I've ever seen.
Movies on IMDB are not overrated, you're just of the minority that doesn't bloody LIKE THEM!
Yeah, I'd have to agree with you too.
I've heard such good things about the movie, and finally watched the BluRay with my wife last night. While it was a good looking disc, we both found the actual movie to be pretty dull.
Plus neither of us like the 2 main actresses in the movie
your boring

I think it's Malick's weakest movie and the only one that really teeters into "boredom" territory but it's still very good
shareI agree, the visuals were great. The movie was a little slow for my liking but for the most part, I think it was well done. I really enjoyed the old farm equipment and the movie does a good job of depicting just how hard farming was back then. The tall house standing alone really added to the film, like it was one of the characters itself.
shareI agree. I watched it for the first time tonight. It was pretty and I enjoyed watching Sam and Richard when they were younger but basically life is depressing enough then you watch this kind of thing and tend to feel even more "blah" by the end.
"Mr Corleone is a man who insists on hearing bad news at once."
The thing about the slow pace of this film is that it gives you time to think. If you are a non-thinking person then you will have difficulty watching it.
shareI wouldn't say it was boring, just depressing which I believe was the point. Obviously the depression era was depressing, thus the name. Yes, it is a thinker film. I have no problem with that. "The Sting" is a film I enjoy and some people call it boring too.
"Mr Corleone is a man who insists on hearing bad news at once."
This wasn't the depression era.

Really?....it wasn't????....Yes. I actually do realize that it wasn't the official, "depression" era. I was just being a little bit of a smart arse. I would not have wanted to live like these characters. Basically it was a depressing movie about people who had depressing lives. I can't imagine watching the movie and wanting to exchange lives with anyone in the movie.
That was basically my point, but thanks for taking me to task on the exactness of my statement.
"Mr Corleone is a man who insists on hearing bad news at once."
I am one such ppl who enjoyed this movie but found Sting very boring :D
shareI totally agree with the O.P. After seeing the reviews & ratings, I was expecting so much more but just found it boring.
