The Ending...

I'm not extremely fond of this movie but the ending really caught my attention. When the narrator girl ran away from the boarding school with another "impetfect" girl, I felt like the cycle started all over again; and it made me think that this film might be an ode to the wounders and dreamers of that generation...despite their flaws, they would never stop trying to live their dream. I think this is confirmed with the opening sequence of historic footage of immigrant workers in the United States. What do you think?

I agree. I really liked the "being whisked off into the unknown future" for Abby by her jumping on the train and the "seeing where these tracks leads us" ending for the narrator girl.

It gave off a feeling of adventure, wanderlust and freedom that I really admire and sometimes wish I still had.

Spot on. Had forgotten about the early immigrant pictures. It makes perfect sense.
