Even when Richard goes to New York in the movie it's still Chicago.

Yeah, I was confused about that too...in the train yard, you can clearly see the Sears Tower in the background....

Thorn Industries is the Daley Center (Washington and LaSalle) in downtown Chicago. In fact, about 25 minutes into the film William Holden emerges from a limo and walks through the revolving door. That door is still there. I use it every day. The interior is also the Daley Center when Holden meets up with Lew Ayres at the elevator. One last piece of trivia - the Daley Center was the building the Blues Brothers go to at the end to pay the assessor.
