What happened with Pasarian?

I don't get what happened in the plant, and why it looked like Damien was glad he was killed. Was Pasarian on the side of Bill Atherton?

reply

Pasarain had been on a trip trying to arrange for Thorn Industries to buy up land, and had noticed that on various occassions where people had refused to sell to Thorn, there was a pattern of associated deaths.

This meant he was getting suspicious about Buher's land acquisition scheme, so, he had to be got rid of.

Thanks! That makes sense. I watched the scene again more carefully, where he came back from his trip and then the conversation with Buher. It's exactly like you said (I must have spaced out on that scene, even though I watched this movie so many times).

For some reason that whole storyline seems to either not register with some viewers, or gets criticised as "pointless" by others, when I've always found it to be the most important part of the film outside of the "someone finds out, they die" cycle and Damien learning who he is.

reply

I've never understood what threat Pasarian was to Damien. Thanks for clarifying.

Once Richard was dead, Damien would assume control of Thorn Industries, with Buhrer in control in the meantime. Once Damien is in control of the lands where famine has ravaged the population, those people will put their faith in him, further distancing their relationship with God and strengthening their newfound relationship with Hell.

reply

I always missed that. I know he talks about his concerns, but never pieced them together.
