I just saw the bit where the news reporter interviews the convoy on the road. In the alternate versions it says this bit is cut in the UK. Have i seen the uncut version and why is it cut out of DVD's???
Hi, that's why I watched it too, guess you'll just have to watch the DVD to know for sure if it was uncut. I remember watching this in the Eighties it was one of the first films I taped off the TV like in 1986.
This is what dvdcomparisons had to say with each regional DVD.
OVERALL: R2 The German disc is uncut and has an anamorphic transfer.
CUTS: R1 America - (Pacific Family Entertainment) - Yes - 3m ?s - The scene where the Chuck Arnoldi character interviews some of the truckers while rolling alongside their convoy has been cut
R2 Germany - (Kinowelt) - No Cuts
R2 Scandinavia - (SME) - Yes - 3m ?s - The scene where the Chuck Arnoldi character interviews some of the truckers while rolling alongside their convoy is cut
R2 United Kingdom - (Warner Bros/Studio Canal) - Yes - 3m ?s - The scene where the Chuck Arnoldi character interviews some of the truckers while rolling alongside their convoy has been cut
So there's your answer, your best bet is to get the R2 German version of the DVD.
This is among life's greatest mysteries. I called Warner Bros couple years ago and they claim to know nothing about it. But they were the first to release it over seas, vhs (1996) and dvd (2001). Pacific Family Entertainment obtained third party licencing rights for their August 2001 dvd rip region 1 version. Cheezy Flicks followed but had a cool box but apprently copied it from Warner too.
I obtained the German Kinowelt too. They were the first too show the 1978 threatrical trailer using the original song for background but german narration.
Also Ive always thought for years that the reason the on the road trucker interview was cut is that since Warner released it into the UK first, they did not like what was said in the interviews so they cut it.
Never understood why the history of the dvd's would a movie be released cut. And I dont mean for tv or theater time.
I have the German version and it's a lot better with the scenes intact, so I recommend the German DVD, don't worry it does come with the original English soundtrack, as well as German.
