Edited versions

Why can I only find cut versions of this movie? Although not edited, there are scenes that have been cut such as the scenes that include the "mooning" one trucker gave the TV interviewer in New Mexico. Where can I purchase the original UN-CUT version?

Depending on where your from, in the world, in the United States thru possibly amazon.com or ebay and from a private sellers purchase the Thorn EMI VHS tape of Convoy. It is the only region 1 vhs tape of the full version. On dvd the only full version known is from the German company kinowelt. It is highly doubtful you will find that on ebay or anywehere else but the Kinowelt company website. Need to understand German to purchase it there. The kinowelt dvd also contains the extremely/rare trailer.

I'm watching it right now after probably 20 years and I know it has cut scenes. Like I'm positive we see Spider Mike gettin beat on, but in this version all we see is afterward when sheriff Lyle is talking to him in the cell.

This is a bummer, I hate watching cut movies. :(

I just watched the movie for the first time in England reg 2. it is rated 12 cert. some scenes do look slightly too short or 'watered' down! the film is fun to watch and enjoy and i keep think of Burt Reynolds and sheriff Beufor .T Justice - he is one funny mother* Kris looks like the typical few worded hero with a good heart. looks a little like jesus with the beard with all those followers*

The one I saw on TCM was in fullscreen, though.

Even though Peckinpah had nothing to do with the post-production of the movie and therefore it had none of his rhythmic sensibilities the cinematography was still outstanding (even in fullscreen) and I want to see a release uncut AND in 2.35:1 -- which I guess is too much to ask.

I have the original EMI Video release of Convoy from 1981 which was complete and in no version of the film did you see Spider Mike get beaten up. I'm actually writing an article for a book of classic pre-cert videos and would love to know just how much was cut out of the DVD.

I know you posted this three years ago, but I found a website where you can find an uncut version. The website is: www.truckerflicks.com I hope this helps.

If you were like everyone else, then who'd be like you?

The Australian Universal DVD release of 2004 is uncut. They all should be, I mean is a guy's bare bum that offensive??
What I want to know is if there's a special edition anywhere in the world with commentary, extras etc. According to David Weddle's excellent "If They Move Kill Em", Peckinpah originally shot 3 and a half hours, but once again the studio did the final edit. I would love to know or see what was cut out.

all of the dvds released by studio canal/universal (everywhere in the world but the US 2004-2007) are uncut, remastered and in 2:35:1 anamorphic

the only know version that DID have extra footage available nowhere else was the super rare ABC tv version. I had this and recorded over it many years ago, because at that time I had no idea the tv version had extra footage until I made a recording off showtime and was saying "hey where is this scene and that". Sadly my recording (roughly 1981) seemed to have been the last time ABC aired this version of the film

I have been searching for it ever since.

that is not the version I was talking about. That kinowelt disc (which I own back when it was PAL and still region 2) is the SAME as the regular US version of the film. It was mentioned as being uncut because at the time the UK edition and some other overseas versions cut out the scene of Chuck interviewing some of the truck drivers.

The ABV TV edition offered footage that has not been since nor appeared in any other known version of the film since. If you are familiar with movies shown on the ABC network back in the late 70's/early 80's it was vety common practice for them to add in alt or otherwise extra footage (usually due to footage that they could not show on tv)

Just to confirm to those of you who may not recall, these are the parts I remember missing from the UK Reg 2 DVD which total about 6 mins i think.

1) Trucker (Handle is big nasty I think) to Chuck the reporter - "You sure are a pretty red headed little boy, wanna ride in my truck?"

2) Random trucker to Chuck the reporter "watch this" and does "Mooney" - Chucks response is "ummmm"

3) One trucker drones on and on about his life which we hear in RD's truck over the CB.

The only part of this scene now in the version I have is when Chuck speakes to the Reverend who saus "life itself is a spiritual event"

Gutted these parts are missing as they were soo funny when I saw them yearsago on VHS :(

if you get a dvd now, get the one released by Universal/studio Canal, they have it released in practically every region of the world (except for the US). It has a new anamorphic transfer, looks great and is completely uncut (being the same as the US version of the film)
