Any Updated DVD Release??

I'm new to the IMDB boards/website but I have loved Convoy for as long as I can remember!!

Does anyone know of an updated and good release of this movie that isn't "cut"? I still have the original VHS but the quality sucks. If someone could lead me in the direction of a "full" DVD release or, and I hate to even ask, make me a DVD-R copy of the film, I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks/God Bless,
Tony Trout

BTW, I'll pay for the cost of a copy of the movie via DVD-R. I've been reading that the German (?) release of the film is the most complete & un-cut? If there's someone who could lead me in the direction of a copy of the German release, I definitely will be grateful!

Thanks,
Tony Trout

Never mind.....I found it on YouTube.

I found the entire and uncut movie on YouTube!!!!!!!!!

I found it on sale in Europe on DVD with the movie in 16:9 last year.
Pretty cool menu, when it loads you get the engine sound of a Mack truck being turned on.

I'm working on supplements for the upcoming Blu-ray (Europe) right now. Look forward to a restored new master and a load of extras :)

Wait.. there's going to be an upcoming BD release of Convoy?! How soon is this planned for and will it be region-free?

It's upsetting that MGMHD plays Convoy all the time in full HD/surround with all extra footage put in. It looks beautiful. Not sure why nobody has ripped the streams from that. I too regret mentioning that, but come on.. we're talking about a movie that is almost 35yrs old and NO good quality versions of it exist!

Vudu also has a great 1080p version of the film, but again, no way to purchase it. WHY?! What makes this movie so special that nobody will release a good version of it to own?

MGMHD/Vudu both have phenomenal versions of the film, so it clearly exists somewhere.

Can anybody tell me who the American homevideo rightholder is ? (DVD label..)
Maybe they'll pick up my supplements for a future US BD release.

Hi, Mike, MGM owns the rights to Convoy here in the U.S.

Thanks for taking this project on for the European Blu Ray release Mike and hopefully one day U.S. release.

What kind of extra's can we expect for the DVD? Was there ever any B-Roll shot during filming? Or have you tracked down any of Sam's deleted footage?

Can we expect a commentary track from any Peckinpah historians or anyone involved with the film?

Here is an interesting interview with Sam about Convoy,

http://videos.arte.tv/en/videos/convoy-im-gespraech-mit-regisseur-sam-peckinpah-englisch--4189084.html

Seems like he played a piece of music originally intended for the film for the interview crew there, but they cut it out. Would be interesting if that could be found.

Anyways, I will be seeing a 35MM screening of Convoy next month, that should hold me over until I can see it in HD.

I hope somehow I will learn about a possible US Blu-ray release - my supplements (99 minutes) are waiting here.. (so if anybody gets some upfront information, let me know!).

B-Roll: I doubt it. I have 6000 stills and never saw a 16mm camera. Local TV was there once, haven't seen the bit though.

Centerpiece of the supplements is my 70-minute documentary PASSION & POETRY - SAM's TRUCKER MOVIE, with the 3 leading actors & producer Michael Deeley. I'm sure many CONVOY fans will be surprised what a chaotic production that film was..I also filmed a great 'Rubber Duck Truck' here in Germany..

Deleted footage never surfaced as far as I know. I made a little featurette about 'lost' scenes, based on my many stills. I also included the 'Song' story in my doc you were mentioning.. (incl. the song, thanks to songwriter Richard Gillis..)

It will be the same Blu-ray Edition (UK/France/Germany = all Studiocanal release - same discs, just the package is different in each country of course. Restored from original negative!)
If anybody could provide me with a contact to the American homevideo rightholder, I would offer them the 100 minutes of supplements I produced for the European Blu-ray.
