Put on our fish costumes

"Here's the plan: When we get to the pass, we're gonna put on our fish costumes, pass out the Vaseline® an' an extra ration o' rum for the men. That should do it."

maybe i'm thick but i don't quite understand the joke if there is one.

I was wondering what the heck that could have meant myself.

I think it is supposed to be that they are going to act like sirenes, by drawing attention to themselves, and beach the cops. As for the vaseline and rum? Maybe that is his way of saying that they are going to either f*<* the cops over or they are f*<*** themselves. It does seem out of place, being more or less maritime-ish jargon in a trucker-movie.

That, or it was the twentieth take, and Kristofferson was screwing around with the line.

It's a goofy way of saying there is no plan at all.

I mean, really, how many times will you look under Jabba's manboobs?
