would this be good to review for a report about the war?

for my history final!?!

If you want a great movie and a great character study dealing with Vietnam. I recomend Deer Hunter. this movie had a major left wing point of view and in my opinion is a very poor film.

No. This movie hardly discusses the war in Vietnam. It does draw some attention to the ill-prepared Vet hospitals, to the compulsion of the military to give awards even when undeserved, to barbarous acts of American soldiers, and to some other issues. But it doesn't explain why these things happened--it just introduces them.

It does to a certain extent reflect the anti-war sentiment that prevailed during the Viet Nam war, expecially among young people. Returning soldiers were often treated unkindly -- reviled, called "baby murderers," even spit at -- to the extent that they feared wearing their uniforms in public. That's really what the movie is about, that and the universal literary (going back to David and Bathsheba) theme of the soldier's wife being romanced by someone back home.
