the song that they play on the radio when Milford freaks out

I have always LOVED the soundtrack and am very disappointed that it was never released as a soundtrack. There is a song that I am dying to know who does, when Penelope Milford and Jane Fonda got to the room with the 2 guys they meet in a club and Tilly is doing a "dirty little dance" and one of the men is drumming with something to the beat of the song. Please-I have wanted to know for years-what is the song and who does it? Anybody???? It is not a well known tune like many of the others.

I think that's "Save Me" by Aretha Franklin.

You are correct! I just found a sample of it online-embarrasing because I consider myself to be a walking library of music knowledge but did not know that song and have wondered for years. Of course I only heard a few minutes in the movie but that is definitely it. Did it ever chart on Billboard? I wonder if it did well on the soul charts back then. Well, thanks anyway-it made that scene very memorable, of couse Penelope Milford was really great in that part.
