A Couple of Questions......
I really like this movie but I have a couple of questions...
Do you think that LUke and Sally are supposed to be younger than they seem (i.e. younger than the actors who play them)? The reason I ask is that, during his speech to the high school kids, Luke tells them he signed up for the war when he was their age. So how long was Luke supposed to be in Vietnam? Was he over there before the U.S. was officially at "war" (I know it wasn't officially declared a war at that time, but I mean pre-1965 or so?). If not, isn't he too old to have joined up in high school? Also, Sally's character just overall seems younger than Jane Fonda. I can't place why exactly, but I'm just wondering if anyone else felt that way or if I'm way off base?
After Sally's brief first encounter with Luke (when she ran into him on the gurney), how did she recognize him from high school? It didn't appear that she had ever known him after high school (since their dialogue when they talked about knowing each other from high school didn't indicate any post high school acquaintance). But she recognized him with such certainty just from seeing him that one time in the hospital. Nobody mentioned his name during that encounter. With the longer hair and beard, he didn't look a whole lot like his high school yearbook photo, and it seemed they had not known each other well in high school-just kind of knew of each other and crossed paths sometimes it seemed to me. So how did she recognize him so easily and with no context (like seeing him at a reunion or in a school sweatshirt or something for example). Thoughts?
Not trying to be nit picky. These two things always just bug me a bit. NOt enough to keep me from loving the movie but enough to scratch at my brain.
