Good movie but actors too old

The main actors are 15 to 20 years too old for their roles. Most guys who saw combat were b/t 18 and 23. Also, the guys in the hospital are generally fat, while those returning from Nam were more commonly skinny upon their return.

This is really a pretty stupid comment. First, Fonda is married to a lifer, not some hick from the back country that had a choice of enlisting or going to jail for underage drinking... of course he and she are both older second, Voight played a guy who WASN'T 20 years old. That's why Fonda went for him, he wasn't another punkass sniffing around like a dog, he was a grown up. Not too hard to figure out there is it?

I'm pretty sure that most of the "guys in the hospital" had been home for a while. Given their various stages of recovery, some of them weren't as mobile as others, which might have contributed to their weight. However, I didn't notice many "fat" people in the hospital.

My father was in Vietnam with people of all ages. Yes, the average age of men serving *who were drafted* was low, but it's not like there were hardly any people older than 23 over there. And as was stated, Jane Fonda was married to a career officer.

I read that the fat guys were Screen Actor's Guild members that had gotten fat sitting around eating Cheetos all day waiting for a casting call to come their way.

The age thing actually bothered me too - not because I wanted to see younger actors but the age of Luke's character just didn't seem to stack up. During the speech to the high school kids, he said (if I'm remembering correctly) that he had joined the military from high school so he could go fight in Vietnam. Maybe I'm wrong (don't have the movie to refer to) but this always confused me since he wasn't supposed to have been back from Vietnam for that long and he is in his thirties in the movie.
The age of the other characters makes good sense, though, as other people have mentioned and I'm sure many people put on weight if they are rehabilitating in the hospital for extending periods (not that I actually remember seeing fat people but I wouldn't expect them all to be skinny).
