My husband really liked Coming Home, but I think his favorite was Platoon. He was a Marine in Vietnam 1964-68 Semper Fi.

I am a veteran, and I think this film is the best Vietnam movie of all. It's about the emotional wounds that affect us for the rest of our lives, not the gory/glory combat scenes with lots of loud music and special effects. Most of all, the superb acting is what carries the film, regardless of what you may think of Jane Fonda's wartime activities.

With your first hand knowledge perhaps you will tell me what a "Jody" is? Bruce Dern calls Voight a Jody (Jodie?) When he's menacing everyone with a gun. " Shut up,you Jody."

reply

It's just "Jody" - not "a Jody". It's the generic first name of all hometown louts who never entered the military and, while you ARE in the military, are said to be back home hitting on your girlfriend. There are many marching cadences that speak of getting home on leave to get back at the mythical "Jody" for assumed transgressions with your girl back home (whether you have one or not), mainly to get you psyched-up to fight (i.e. the enemy, hopefully).

reply

Not shy, just don't know you.
