The Vietnam War

Hi guys. I have a course on the Vietnam War. I am from Denmark, Copenhagen. I´d like to hear you guys opinion about the history and the conflict itself and the role of American power in the world. Please feel free to express any opinion you might have. It is all very useful. Thank you. I´d especially like to hear from Vets because, like one of the users here "rebiewer", they are the ones that KNOW. Thank you. I *beep* you not. Feeling good is good enough.

Best wishes
Peter

Hello Peter,

I will "sound off" on the Viet Nam conflict. I am a former US Marine, and I hold a double major in History and Political Science.
First off, the war in Viet Nam was the most politicized in U.S. history. It cost Lyndon Johnson his presidency, and it marred so much of what America achieved in the 1960s (the Great Society, the space program, the civil rights achievements). I have not seen "Coming Home" in its entirety because of Jane Fonda. I believe to this day that she is a traitor to her country and should have been tried by a military court for treason upon her return to the United States from North Viet Nam.
That being said, I am not a strong supporter of war. It is as "a continuation of politics by other means," according to one of the great German philosophers (Von Klauswitz--sp.). Nevertheless...if you are going to fight a war, you DO NOT send troops in with one hand tied behind their backs. You order them in,,, allow their commanders to make the best decisions to achieve their given objectives, and upon completing said objectives, you leave an occupying force in place to let the enemy know it got its butt whipped.
Because this did not occur in Viet Nam, thousands of U.S. troops were killed and wounded needlessly.

Eh, I thought we were going to talk about Jane Fonda's Cute Behind, on this thread? As one of the
surveillance guys says, as he is snapping photographs, "she's got a nice ass, for a white girl."

I'm the bad guy? How'd that happen?

Bob Seger's song, "Her Strut," which includes the lyrics, "I do respect her but (butt?), I love to watch her strut," was inspired by Jane Fonda.
