Question about Buck Rogers Pilot Episode

On the pilot episodes, was there a scene where Buck is walking through the wasteland of some large US city, and some shadowy folks appear and start banging pipes to make noise? Ive been wondering if my memory is conflating Buck Rogers with some other show from the same era. . .

yep. he walks thru whats left of chicago after the holocaust and is chased by mutants

It was also released to movie theaters first. I remember seeing this in the theaters, then on NBC about a year later.
