What I'd like to know is how the hell do you get arguably the two greatest British screen actors ever in the same movie and NOT let them share a scene?

Complete waste, and it by virtue alone would have elevated this rather silly film a good deal.

James Mason was 100 times the actor hammy Olivier was. Laurence Olivier is the most overrated actor of the golden age. Watch him in Spartacus, he's almost unwatchable he's so bad.

Mason was also great in Salem's Lot.

No you won't. Olivier in Spartacus is pure agony. He's horrible in most of his films.
