Shut up you ugly bitch.

Greatest line in Gregory Peck's distinguished career. By far.

It's in the delivery. Such amazing delivery.

I loved how it just cut to another scene afterward. Brilliant.

Iron? I don't think so?

MY BAD.

HE BETRAYED ME! HE BETRAYED YOU! HE BETRAYED THE ARYAN RACE!

DOUBLE FIST SIDEWAYS SALUTE!

reply

it was her reaction that made it, I mean it might have been a drag queen and god rest that actress' soul...

reply

She had to be one of the ugliest people I've ever seen.

reply

She was not blessed in the looks department. I took one glance at her and said: "It's a man, baby!" I'm still not sure it wasn't.

reply

I remember sitting with a bunch of my friends in a theater when the great Gregory Peck uttered this truly memorable cinematic line and we all just burst out into immediate and uncontrolled laughter!

In fact, I recall after this film came out in the late 1970s, it was almost a running joke, where men and even some women would say to each other in a bar, at the beach, in a park, etc.:

"Shut up, you ugly b!tch!"

Still, even though that woman would never be confused with Grace Kelly or Charlize Theron in the looks department, you had to feel bad for her, the way that the "good" doctor insulted her in front of all those other "genial" members of the Aryan race.

PS Clearly, Mrs. Mundt was NOT a product of Hitler's ambitious eugenics plan to breed the perfect Nordic/Christian woman or man!

reply

Who is that actress anyway? She doesn't appear to be credited here, at least not with Mundt as the character's last name. I don't remember her first name in the film.

I hope the actress didn't receive the same greeting in public from people who remembered her from the film. It's a notorious claim to fame, whoever she is.

That German woman had about as much of an unflattering role as did the actress (Betsy Blair?) who portrayed the great Ernest Borgnine's "Plain Jane" girlfriend in the film classic, "Marty."

reply

You may not believe this, but Betsy Blair was quite pretty in real life; I saw her in some film some years later, and she was quite attractive. She also married...oh, I forget who it was, but a good-looking guy. They made her look unattractive in that film. btw---I loved what some poster said here, "She wouldn't be confused with Grace Kelly in the looks department." lol

reply

Betsy Blair was married to Gene Kelly.

reply

The point is he's a jerk to say such a thing. You've all got to understand that it's based on his initial reaction to seeing her. The film is about enjoying life versus seeking to achieve a lifelong goal.

I will not change this signature until Perceptor is the chosen one in a Transformers movie.

reply

Delivered with contempt . brilliant

reply

No matter how many times I've see the film, it always cracks me up again and again.
