Saw this film on Labor Day Weekend 1978. It was poorly released.

One of my favorite scenes was when the BEAR was now the garbage man instead of Mose from The Searchers.

Just the way Sam Melville said "I'm just a garbage man" was so cool. Such power, conviction, and cadence.

Stayed with me for years.

Line was almost the price of admission.

I agree with you and it would have been better if a single corny tear rolled down his cheek and he walked off into the sunset (even though it was daytime). And then the last shot of the destructed stairs they walk up. Best conclusion ever.

Yeah, Sam would have been able to pull off a single corny tear. Was an underrated actor. RIP.
