why no spinoffs?

too bad Taxi never did a spinoff I wonder why I could see Jim's family having there own series or Zena though Reah Pearlman would'nt've gotton the role of Carla on Cheers how bout a Latka and Simka spinoff? but then Andy Kaufman past away a year after Taxi ended I think it would've been nice if they did a spinoff of some sort

reply

The only probable spin-off would be Elaine.

I don't see the other characters moving on to anything else.

I like to think of Cheers as being in the same universe.

Cheers really was as close to a spin-off as anyone would've wanted. Both Glen and Les Charles jumped ship after the third season to produce it, obviously loving both Rhea Perlman and Ted Danson enough to give them starring roles.

But of any of the characters, realistically Tony would have made the most successful spin-off. But then again, we got Who's the Boss?

reply

the vic ferrari show

reply

Can only imagine a Simka spinoff. Andy wanted out of sitcoms.

I think Louie would have been hilarious in just about any situation. Jim would probably be following him around.

If Rhea's character of Zena had moved to Boston with her new husband and taken a job at Cheers as a waitress, instead of Rhea doing Carla, that would have been interesting.

Also,Ted having been on Taxi in one show (as that obnixious
hairdresser) is also the closest to a spin-off anything got to.

do'nt forget George Wendt made an appearence on Taxi as that exterminator.

Stanley. Danny DeVito was mega-super well cast as Louie here but he is often inferior in other shows.

Watch out for a terrible troll named Topix. Ignore any postings by that individual or any stranger!

Taxi was never really successful enough to inspire a spinoff. It even changed networks because the ratings weren't all that good.

reply

it wouldn't say it wasn't successful Taxi was a very groundbreaking sitcom if it wasn't for Taxi there wouldn't been Cheers.Cheers was the closest they had to a spinoff I can agree with plus James Burrows and the Charles brothers we're writers for both shows

reply

Taxi had widespread critical acclaim from the beginning. My point was, the ratings were never all that high--and that's the reason they do spinoffs from a show. A show that doesn't please the critics but has blockbuster ratings is much more likely to have shows spun off from it than a critical darling barely limping along.

reply

which is a shame you see a show like Taxi and think it could've went on another 2 or 3 seasons though the actors went on to different stuff andy kaufman passed away a year later

reply

I think the following may have worked.

Louie could have been fired from the Cab company and done something different.

Jim could just be a slacker who always gets fired from jobs.

Tony as a Boxer is a possibility.

...............ZING!

reply

Actually Tony DID had a spinoff where he and his daughter lived with a women and her son and mother and he became their housekeeper...

Was that around the time when Jim Ignatowski quit driving a cab and took his father's fortune and built a time machine out of a Delorean?

reply

Yes ,quite certain of that. 

Also about the same time Latka got aboard that
same UFO that Jim experienced and left earth forever..

Did he give them some of his cookies?

They should have used " Jim Joins the Network" as a pilot and had a show parodying network TV.
