do you consider this a goof?

the famous episode where Jim takes his driving test he forgets his last name and Elaine asks whats your fathers last name its Ignatowski but then later we learned Jim changed his last name to Ignatowski because he thought it was starchild backwards. And his real last name is Calliwell which of course was his dads last name. Do you consider this to be a plothole or was it just one of Jims antics affects from his doing drugs and killing his brain cells and being disoriented about everything so it possibly natural to confuse his fathers last name with his fake name.

A solid, respectable name? Does eastern European mean lowlife, reprobate?

This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

I think since Jim is a "drop-out" from society, like a lot of 11960s youth were........
He not only took the name Ignitowski because he thought it the reverse of Starchild but also as a way to distance himself from his "capitalist" background & family.

When the charatcer is finally found by his family, you can bet Jim is not to pleased about it but he does the right thing and sees his dad. He's offered a chane to re-enter mainstream society but wants nothing to do with it.

That would be contrary to what the charachetr stand for in the first place.Even though, yes,it is a bit foolish to want to stay in that condition,it's his choice and a lot of former 60s hippies/drop outs or anarchists remained that way.

Any goof including him can be explained by his odd personality. Quite a brilliant writing technique if you ask me.

I'm not sure theyy ever expected him to have a rich family but they knew from "Odyssey" that they wanted Lloyd on the show again.

I think that is the episode when Jim is having some flashbacks, and flashing back to his days watching the Mickey Mouse Club says the line I'll always remember Jim for.

"That Cubby really has it out for me", or something very close to that.

It's actually Caldwell. When they find out he changed his name to Ignatowski he looks a little embarrassed to admit it. When Elaine asks him what his father name is he probably just said Ignatowski to avoid going into something personal with people he just met.

It's not a goof. Jim thought his real name was Ignatowski, not Caldwell!! Or at least he considered it to be his "real" name!
