The show's premise wouldn't work in the world of CCTV and smartphones?

At the time of the show Banner could easily hide in plain sight anywhere, but nowadays Banner would have more trouble hiding which would lead to more conflict and problems for him. In modern day there would probably be online communities fans of the Hulk with all kind of theories as to its origin. If Jack McGee had thrown the name of Banner, people around the world would have shared pictures of him and he wouldn't have been able to hide that easily.

The show can still work today. Its a known fact that superheroes can easily disguise themselves from the public. Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, Peter Parker and Diana Prince all have done this. No reason why David Banner couldn't do it too

Except that their identities aren't known to the public and secondly nobody thinks they are dead. That's the thing. The premise of this show and its sequels is that as far as the world is concerned David Banner is dead and so David tries to keep a low profile to keep that a secret.

Though this really wouldn't work in today's world since every employer now would require a valid ID from the people they interview.

And what if he bumped into somebody from a previous episode or from his former work life from the pilot? The whole thing would be blown to bits.

Well how times is The Hulk gonna smash up everything in public until people start pointing fingers? When he turns into The Hulk where's the guarantee nobody is gonna see him change every time?

The newer approach since the TV show is that people know that Banner is The Hulk, which kind of makes it more dramatic, causing him to be persecuted more.
