Scared the bejesus out of me.........

....When I was a kid, the scene at the end when the buffalo comes charging through the clearing at Charles Bronson. God that thing was scary! I'm watching the end of it right now as I speak and I still feel chills :P I'm lame, I know. I just had to let it out of my system.

It's just as a kid, to me it looked so much bigger and monstrous, like it was the size of a building or something.

I do feel sorry for it though, poor thing :(

I really need to go out and rent the film and watch it from the beginning!

I liked the portrayal of Wild Bill, Bronson played him with a kind of weathered nobility. Good stuff :D

Interesting commentary milagemini. I agree completely that the dialogue in this film is absolute poetry; the imagery is ethereal as well. The two elements combined make this a very special film.

To be honest I have never understood the term "cult film" until I read the coments on the IMDB message board for The White Buffalo. -This film seems to speak volumes, but it only speaks to certain people.

Many years ago I had the chance to see some buffalo up close, and they are very huge indeed!. Thank goodness there was a tall fence between me and them, but it was quite a sight to see. They were all the more common dark brown color. Once in a while one would run a little and it was amazing how far he could stretch his body out after his hind feet hit the ground before his front feet hit the ground again. It's too bad so many of them were killed off but I'm glad to see that some people are still keeping them on ranches.

Your not the only one scared of it as a kid. I was terrifed. It still has that spookyness feeling about it.

It was metal? No, you don't say!

The channel I saw it on called "Movieplex", they show all sorts of films there, and commercial free. It's pretty nice actually. Glad to know I wasn't the only one who was shaken up as a kid!

I don't know if the movie is out there to rent, from what I could tell, it looks like a great film. Bronson always brings something special to his characters.

I saw a special on 'Unsolved Mysteries' about white buffalos, it was about one in particular, I totally forget the location though. The segment showed how respected and revered it was, and Native Americans were coming from all over with their children to have them "blessed" by the white buffalo. The actual animal itself was beautiful. I hope they replay it sometime!

I also saw this film on TV back in the late 70s as a kid. The scene at the end with the buffalo storming the clearing and when it is attacking the village really stuck with me over the years. There's a great sense of foreboding, very atmospheric, esp. during the dream sequences. The acting and writing is superb, have always felt this movie was way too overlooked. I have had a copy on VHS for a while now but I would be very happy to see it get a good DVD release. I also think a remake would be okay only if they do a great job like the remake of 3:10 to Yuma this year.

Reminded me of Curse of the Demon - the scene where the demon approaches. Ominous and relentless.
White spike was another Westernism took me a heck of a while to realise what it was.

I remember seeing this movie on a local FOX affiliate in the early 80s and remember the teasers they played for the movie with footage of the white buffalo steaming like an angry locomotive thru the snow-very terrifying for a kid of my age (8-9 at the time)
