DVD release in 2007

For those of you wanting a dvd release, good news. According to a Warner chat at The Digital Bits from February, Twilight's Last Gleaming Will be released next year as part of a Burt Lancaster box set. I'm looking forward to it, since Warners does a pretty good job on their classic dvd releases.

Great! My 4:3 VHS bootleg copy got here today!

I'll definitly be buying the Burt Lancaster set when it comes out.

reply

Outstanding! I've been gingerly hoarding my factory VHS cassette which is still in remarkably good shape. But there is no substitute for the digital format. P'raps now we'll see some other films out on DVD that "they" don't want us to see like "The Cassandra Crossing", "Hammersmith Is Out" and "Shadow Conspiracy". HOOAH!!!

In 2008 this movie is still not available on Netflix. I wonder if it being a Burt boxed set it might not show up there

reply

I don't see a DVD available on Amazon.com either. ARGH! I wonder if they have actually released it yet.

reply

Yes,sadly we were screwed.

Like so many, I was looking forward to the Warner Brothers collection of Burt Lancaster films. 'Lo and behold, the collection was released but NOT with Twilight's Last Gleaming.

Come on WB, release the film NOW!

OK, apparently the rights have now been acquired by Olive Films, who are hopefully planning to release it in the not-so-distant future. Still awaiting an official confirmation.

As far as I can tell, though, they tend to release their films remastered in HD from their original negatives in their original aspect ratio. Which tells me that, among other things, we'll be getting the full 147 minute cut (IMDB says 146, Robert Aldrich himself says 147) instead of the TV version cut down to 143-144 minutes and released by CBS Fox on VHS, and in 16x9 as opposed to 4:3.

There have also been some rumours about some DVD extras being included.

So, not all hope is lost, folks. :)

That's exciting news. Olive Films seem to be acquiring quite a few "lost" films, so let's hope they do them justice.
