George in the last scene
In the last scene, after McQueen has been shot by the gunman in the taxi, George turns round and shouts "You killed him". I have always taken it that he is shouting it at Regan but why does he say it?
shareMy take on this is that George knew that by placing him under arrest McQueen would have to be "eliminated" by the people he worked for, simply because he knew too much. Jack also knew this and still insisted on it, as an act of revenge and retribution on McQueen. George (always the one with the conscience)was letting Jack know that McQueen's death was down to him.

That's what I took from it too, but I'm still not sure why George was so thoroughly p*ssed off with Jack because of it.
After all, McQueen directly ordered hits on many innocent people and it's down to him that Bianca and a fellow copper were murdered.
I don't get George's anger, despite McQueen getting the bullet he definitely deserved.

British law essentially involves taking criminals and putting them in prison (at least in the '70s), not seeing them executed. George and Jack never see eye to eye and Jack essentially condemning a man to death goes agaist the grain, no matter how evil the criminal's actions.
If McQueen had received justice,ghe'd have been tried and hanged.Since the politicians wrre prepared to let him get away,Regan made sure he got what he deserved.
shareMcQueen wouldn't be hanged, the death penalty was abolished in Britain in 1969.
Regan knew full well that a murder of McQueen was very likely. After taking McQueen from the MI5 officers, Carter wants to put him in the nearby car. Regan insists he is taken in their car, a short distance away.
Regan is giving any assasin the best chance he can and Carter sees this. Hence Carter's accusation at the end.

I think the OP's point is why is George so pee'd off at Jack? Okay, George might have more of a conscience ("con-science? can that be right?" - name that movie) and do things a bit differently from Jack, but come on, to make that accusatory shout against your governor in front of all those other coppers wasn't cool. And let's face it, McQueen definitely got what he deserved. So George, while I get why he did what he did, was well out of order.

George had apparently experienced a memory loss surrounding the hit, they'd only just survived, but had taken Bianca's life. I'd have preferred to hear him say something along the lines of, "That'll save us some paperwork Gov".🐭 share
George was always a bit of a div though - the scene in the pub where jack is explaining his conspiracy theory highlights this!!
