CB Channel Jumping

Bandit and Snowman come up with this great idea to change the channel after every time they talk to each other going up one odd number. Apparently this plan wasn't very stealthy because nobody seemed to have any problem locating the Bandit on the radio. Seeing as how CBs only have a range of 25 miles at most they'd be leaving most of the people who happened on to their channel behind before the listener could figure out they changed the channel.

This is the one thing in the movie that bothers me the most. :)

Also, how was Buford T. Justice talking to all these other Sheriff departments? Wouldn't at least some of their radios be on different frequencies?

25 miles? More like 2-3 miles

All law enforcement have "car to car" channel, that channel operates on the same frequency at a limited range

I took it as there were only a few times when Buford could hear Bandit and Cledus, and it was because he was on the same channel when they popped in, such as the scene where he hears Bandit chatting with Foxy Lady, and thinks he can snag him at the rolling brothel.

But it seemed like Bandit and Snowman were constantly chatting as they went, checking time, shooting the breeze, etc., so I imagine they'd cycle through the channel every so often and Buford would catch them again for a moment.
