I feel stupid, because I realized this after a hundred viewings

I don't know how I missed this. But when Ned bails out the Hansons, and McGrath gives the police officer the Chiefs key ring....it that THE key ring that hit Jeff in the face? I mean, I don't know why the Hyannisport fan would have the Chiefs key ring, but....is that what it's supposed to be? I don't know how it never dawned on me before.

I doubt it. The fan was obviously a Hyannisport fan. When McGrath gives the sergeant the key chain, he tells him it's a Chief's key chain that - you can't buy in any stores so it seems highly unlikely.

I think another point is that small time minor league teams always have cheap giveaways and trinkets that they act like are great but was probably just a plastic piece of junk.
