Not Disturbing

(just made this post incase someone else thought this movie would be disturbing)

I got this movie as a recommendation of being "disturbing" and just thought i'd give you a heads up that its not disturbing at all, put it this way the movie bad boys (sean penn) was more disturbing than this and that movie wasnt even disturbing

I didn't say short eyes had sean penn in it, I was comparing short eyes with the movie bad boys on a disturbing point of view

and to me stories aren't disturbing, I need reenactments, i'm weird like that, I could read stories about prison rape and not find them disturbing, yet if I see a prison rape scene acted out on a movie I find it pretty disturbing.

but anyway the movie was fairly slow and just pretty boring in general I wouldn't really want to watch it a 2nd time

well I found scum a bit more disturbing than short eyes, but right off the top of my head I haven't really seen that many disturbing movies

I wouldn't say that Short Eyes disturbed me - but it did bother me enough that I consider it a very efffective film. I often find that the more psychologically daunting elements for a character have a greater impact on me than sheer violence or images. The character Short Eyes goes through real hell.

Come and See 'Idi I Smotri' (1985) would rank as one of the most disturbing films I have ever seen.

You "win at the Internet"?! Lol
Wow... Not sure what that means but that's great for you I guess.
Do you get a ribbon or trophy for that?

reply

I agree. It's not disturbing. Nor is it interesting.

reply

I beg to differ. I found Clark's speech to be highly disturbing and I thought the film was overall very interesting.

reply

I disagree. I thought this film was extremely edgy and disturbing.

The Glass House with Alan Alda was infinitely more disturbing than this one. Vic Morrow was 10x scarier than the scariest inmate in this movie. Kris Tabori was gang raped and was NOT a "short eyes", just a drug user.

Glass House was a TV movie, Vic Morrow was a creepy.

"Short Eyes" is on Encore now.

reply

I could't get into Glass House. I have no doubt it was one of the first prison movies to take an honest look at what prison life was like, but I've already seen plenty of others that followed it, thus making "Glass House" too predictable.

What made "Short Eyes" different was that it dealt with a pedophile in prison, which is something I have not seen elsewhere except on Oz.

reply

Well, I do think its representation of prison rape probably heightened public awareness, so it was disturbing enough.

How do you know all this?

I thought Juan and the prison warden were the only remotely likable people in the movie. Everyone else was horrible. I wanted to throw up with all the scenes with Clark; he's either telling disturbing stories and acting pathetic or a frightened puppy being kicked into a corner.

reply

Lol your post makes no sense at all
You tell us this movie is NOT disturbing. Which is really random, but okay...
Then you tell us about a movie that is much more disturbing but then tell us that NO, it's not disturbing at all (I guess you changed your mind halfway through your thought?)
