Plot Hole
The SS Commander (Peter Cushing) said that he commanded the water-born version of the super soldier and that they were used on subs that would NEVER have to surface. The problem with his story and with the airborne, desert born, snow born etc is that they are commanded by Humans just like he is and as a result they could not stay down forever etc. They would die. Each unit is as strong as its weakest link and having super soldiers commanded by mere mortals you limit their abilities to the humans abilities &/or endurance....Duh!
