The prologue kills the whole movie!! (Spoilers!)

The beginning of the film shows a girl adrift in a lifeboat being rescued by fisherman.
Then she relates everything she went through in flashback.
TCH! You know right ahead of time she's going to be the sole-survivor.
Stupid way to start a movie.

I agree with the OP, the whole movie I was like "everybody's gonna die except that girl" and when the main guy and the girl escaped I was "how is he gonna die?
Not that good imho

You are right, it kind of limits the potential of the movie to show the end at the beginning. However, one thing this does is that it builds the overall theme of hopelessness and dread for the movie. Good horror movies should have the components of hopelessness and dread, to some extent, to make the viewer feel uncomfortable.

I like the flashback gimmick used in this movie (and many others of its era). All you know at that point is that she was found in a boat by herself. That early in the film, there could be any number of reasons for her to have become stranded on her own. It only truly becomes obvious when she and Chuck make their escape attempt in the dinghy.
